Singaporeans joke that you need a passport to visit Woodlands. Parents who live there know the punchline is on everyone else. Within a few MRT stops of the Causeway sit the playground with the most slides in the country, the northernmost jetty on the mainland, a free dinosaur water playground and a community club observatory that charges a dollar.

If you are searching for things to do with kids in Woodlands, this guide covers Woodlands, Admiralty and Marsiling place by place. Each entry tells you why your child will like it, how to get there, what it costs and when it opens. Where a place can be booked on Jungle, the link is there.

Outdoor parks and playgrounds, all free

1. Admiralty Park

Admiralty Park is a 27-hectare NParks park on the Sungei Cina, and its playground has 26 slides. That is more than any other public playground in Singapore. The slides run down a terraced hillside in three play areas, so a two-year-old and a ten-year-old can both find something at their level without leaving each other's sight. A 20-hectare nature area of forest, mangrove and grassland wraps around the play zone, with a boardwalk for a cooler walk once the slides are done.

Two practical notes. Bridge C in the nature area is closed for repair until 31 December 2027. The north entrance car park closed permanently in August 2023, so drive to the west car park off Riverside Road.

Why kids will love it: Slides in every length and speed, including a covered tube slide for the brave, plus a flying fox, sand play and swings. Older children treat the terraced hill as a challenge course. Younger ones stay in the toddler zone near the Woodlands Avenue 5 entrance.

2. Woodlands Waterfront Park

An 11-hectare park along Admiralty Road West that ends in a 400-metre jetty, the northernmost point of mainland Singapore. Johor Bahru sits across the strait, close enough to make out the buildings. A 1.5 km promenade runs the length of the park, flat enough for scooters and prams, and a large playground with climbing nets and slides sits back from the water. Fishing off the jetty is a Woodlands weekend ritual, and children can watch the regulars land a catch without needing a rod of their own. A halal eatery inside the park handles lunch.

Why kids will love it: Walking to the end of a jetty that long feels like an expedition. The playground rewards climbers, the promenade rewards scooters, and there are ships to count in the strait. Come at 5pm for the breeze and stay for the lights across the water.

3. Marsiling Park

Marsiling Park is 12.8 hectares beside the Bukit Timah Expressway, built around a pond with Chinese-style pavilions and a viewing tower above a cascading grain garden. The playground most families come for is the butterfly-shaped rope play area, a net structure children climb across rather than up. Fitness stations and an eatery sit near the car park.

Know before you go: NParks has closed the Ribbon Playscape from 31 December 2025 until the first quarter of 2029, and construction takes up part of the car park. The butterfly play area and the pond loop stay open.

Why kids will love it: The rope butterfly is a proper climb, and the viewing tower gives a five-year-old a view they have earned. The pond loop is short enough for small legs. It is quieter than Admiralty Park and the better pick for a short after-school run.

4. Fu Shan Garden dinosaur playground

Fu Shan Garden is a neighbourhood park on Woodlands Street 81 that has been a dinosaur park since 1997, when Hong Hai Arts installed a set of concrete dinosaurs: a dimetrodon slide, a sauropod slide, a pteranodon and a tyrannosaurus. Newer pieces by Playpoint added a yellow triceratops and a green stegosaurus built for climbing, a log-shaped pipe to crawl through and a standard playground set. It is small, shaded in parts and rarely crowded.

Why kids will love it: A dinosaur-obsessed four-year-old gets to slide down a sauropod's tail. The older sculptures have the rough charm of 1990s HDB playgrounds, and the newer ones are made for climbing. Twenty minutes here fixes most afternoons.

5. The Ant and the Grasshopper Playground, Woodlands Glen

Completed in June 2017 between Blocks 573B and 573C on Woodlands Drive 16, this is one of the better themed HDB playgrounds in the north. A giant grasshopper for older children has a ladder into its head, fireman-pole feelers to slide down and a back slide, with a treehouse tower beside it reached by rope, ladder or climbing holds. A giant ant for younger children has a gentle climbing slope and a red slide. The insects are a nod to the years when Woodlands was forest. A leaf-patterned shelter gives parents shade.

Why kids will love it: Climbing into a grasshopper's mouth and leaving down its antenna is the kind of thing children describe at dinner. The ant keeps toddlers busy at their own scale, so siblings of different ages both get a turn.

6. Woodlands Town Park East

Across Woodlands Street 13 from the swimming complex, Woodlands Town Park East is 6.11 hectares of trails, gardens and open grass around a 30-metre hill. There is no big playground here. What there is: a summit small enough for a three-year-old to conquer and tall enough to feel like one, plus lawns for a picnic or a kite. Pair it with a morning swim next door.

Why kids will love it: "Climb the mountain" is a game that works at every age, and this mountain takes ten minutes. Bring a ball for the grass at the bottom.

Water play and swimming

7. Woodlands Swimming Complex

An ActiveSG complex on Woodlands Street 13 with a competition pool, a teaching pool and a wading pool. There are no slides or wave machines, and that is the point. It is calm, cheap and rarely full on a weekday morning, which makes it the right place for a first swim or a SwimSafer lesson. Entry for a Singaporean or PR child is 50 cents on a weekday and 60 cents at the weekend, under ActiveSG rates updated on 25 August 2026. The complex closes every Thursday for maintenance unless the Thursday is a public holiday.

8. Causeway Point Dino Playground

On Level 7 of Causeway Point, next to Woodlands MRT, sits a free dinosaur-themed wet playground: a volcano that erupts water, two slides, spring riders, trampolines and floor buttons that fire water jets, plus a toddler zone with a dino-egg tray. Frasers Property runs it in hourly sessions of 45 minutes play and 15 minutes changeover, capped at 80 children, for ages 12 and under. It closes for maintenance on the second Monday of each month.

Why kids will love it: Pressing a button and getting sprayed never gets old. The volcano is the draw for four- to eight-year-olds. The toddler zone keeps the under-threes out of the crossfire. There are no changing rooms, so change in the mall toilets and bring a towel and a dry set.

Indoor play and rainy-day options

9. Wan To Play Tropical Drift, Woodlands Civic Centre

Wan To Play runs seven indoor playgrounds across Singapore, and Tropical Drift on Level 4 of Woodlands Civic Centre is the one for the North. It is a pretend-play playground more than a climbing one: themed stations, an LED dance floor, arcade-style games and bumper cars for the older children. Tropical Drift sells two-hour passes only, at $38.15 including GST, and tickets are walk-in at the counter. Online sales are not available.

Why kids will love it: Bumper cars indoors. That alone carries a rainy Tuesday. The pretend-play stations suit the three-to-six crowd and the LED floor gets everyone moving. 10. Woodlands Regional Library

NLB now lists it as Woodlands Library, but everyone in the North still says Regional. It opened on 28 April 2001 inside Woodlands Civic Centre, four storeys and 11,100 square metres, and it was designed as a park indoors with the Enchanted Tree as its centrepiece. The Children's Collection is on Level 4: about 150,000 fiction and non-fiction titles for ages 0 to 12, with storytelling and programmes through the week. It shares a building with Wan To Play and sits a short walk from the swimming complex, which makes a full wet-weather day easy to plan.

Why kids will love it: A library built to look like a park, with a tree to read under. Level 4 is theirs. On a wet afternoon it is free, air-conditioned and open until 9pm.

11. Woodlands Galaxy CC Observatory

Woodlands Galaxy Community Club has a dome observatory on Level 6, run with the CC's astronomy club, and it opens to the public on Friday nights. The September 2026 listing on onePA runs every Friday from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. You take the lift to Level 5 and climb a spiral staircase to the dome, where volunteers point the telescope at whatever the sky is offering that night, from the Moon to Jupiter. Sessions depend on the weather and there are no refunds if cloud rolls in. Tickets are sold through onePA. Past sessions have cost $1 a person, and you need to log in to onePA to see the current price and vacancies.

Why kids will love it: Looking through a real telescope at a real planet beats any screen. It is late enough to feel like a treat and short enough to be home by ten. Best for children six and up who can wait their turn in the dark.

12. X'treme Kayaking at Woodlands Waterfront

X'treme Kayaking runs coached kayaking sessions for children and families from the SAF Yacht Club on Admiralty Road West, next to Woodlands Waterfront Park. Jungle lists it for ages 7 to 18. Water-safety basics come before anyone paddles out, and the strait here is sheltered enough for beginners. The operator does not maintain a working website, so book and ask about pricing through Jungle.

Why kids will love it: Paddling their own kayak with the Causeway on one side and open water on the other. It is the one activity on this list where a nine-year-old is in charge of the boat. Bring dry clothes and a waterproof bag for the phone.

13. Horse riding at Bukit Timah Saddle Club, Kranji

Bukit Timah Saddle Club now operates from Stable Blocks 113 and 116 on Turf Club Avenue in Kranji, a ten-minute drive from Woodlands. The Singapore Turf Club Riding Centre next door has permanently closed, so this is the North's riding school. For a first taste, the 20-minute Pony Ride on Sunday afternoons takes children from age 3 at $45. From age 6, the one-hour Beginners Experience is $130 semi-private or $155 private. Children who want more can join the Pony Club, which takes riders from age 5 across five terms a year and teaches grooming, feeding and stable care alongside riding. Lessons run Tuesday to Sunday, 7am to 10am and 4pm to 7pm.

Why kids will love it: Sitting on a pony is a rite of passage, and the Sunday ride is short enough for a three-year-old's attention span. The Pony Club is for the child who asks for a horse every birthday. Wear long trousers and closed shoes.

14. Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve

Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve is a 15-minute drive from Woodlands and free to enter. Start at the Visitor Centre on Kranji Way, where the Junior Wetland, a rehabilitated freshwater pond, is built for children to spot dragonflies, fish and birds at close range. The mangrove boardwalk keeps feet dry, and the 18-metre Aerie Tower gives a view over the whole reserve. Every Saturday from 9.30am to 11am NParks runs a free guided walk called "What's in my mangrove?", meeting at the Information Counter. Mudskippers and monitor lizards are the usual sightings. Estuarine crocodiles live here too, so obey the signs.

Why kids will love it: Mudskippers walking on mud, a tower to climb, and the real chance of a crocodile sighting from a safe boardwalk. Go early. By 10am it is hot and the birds have gone quiet.

15. Kranji Marshes

Kranji Marshes is 56.8 hectares of freshwater marsh on the edge of Kranji Reservoir, of which 8 hectares are open to the public without a guide. The walk from the Kranji Gate car park to the 15-metre Raptor Tower takes about 15 minutes on flat paths, and the tower is the reward: a view over the marsh and reservoir where raptors and herons hunt. There are bird hides along the way for children who can keep still for two minutes. The tower is steps only, so it is not for prams. No pets.

Why kids will love it: A tower to climb and a hide to sit in, which turns birdwatching into a stakeout. Bring binoculars if you have them. Pair it with Sungei Buloh for a full nature morning.

16. Mandai Wildlife Reserve

Ten minutes by car from Woodlands, Mandai Lake Road holds five wildlife parks: Singapore Zoo, Bird Paradise, Rainforest Wild Asia, River Wonders and Night Safari. They are covered everywhere, so they get one entry here. The Zoo is the default for under-eights because of Rainforest KidzWorld and its water play area, with the in-park tram included in the ticket. Bird Paradise has eight walk-through aviaries. Rainforest Wild Asia, the newest, is built for older children who want to climb. Single-park tickets are sold on the official Mandai site, local residents get lower WildPass pricing, and a six-attraction one-day pass is $118 for adults and $90 for children aged 3 to 12.

Why kids will love it: Everything. That is why the queues exist. Go on a weekday, arrive at 8.30am for the Zoo, and leave before the 1pm heat.

17. Marsiling Mall Hawker Centre

Every entry above ends with a hungry child. Marsiling Mall Hawker Centre, on the ground floor of the mall beside Marsiling MRT, opened in 2017 to replace the old Woodlands Town Centre stalls and now has more than 70 of them under NEA management. It is spacious, ventilated and open from 9am to 10pm, so it covers breakfast before Admiralty Park and dinner after the Waterfront. There is chicken rice, prata and noodles for the fussy, and everything else for the rest.

Why kids will love it: Choosing their own stall. Food in ten minutes. A dessert stall for negotiations.
